Choosing between a career path as an engineering manager or an individual contributor is a pivotal decision for engineers as they advance in their careers. This choice often hinges on personal interests, leadership aspirations, and the desire for hands-on technical work. Let’s get together and discuss:
• What are the key factors that developers should consider when deciding between becoming an engineering manager or staying on the individual contributor track?
• How can someone assess whether they have the necessary skills and mindset to transition into a management role?
• What are the most significant challenges and rewards that come with each path—engineering management versus individual contribution?
• How can companies support employees who are undecided or want to explore both career paths simultaneously?

The end of the low-interest rate era in 2023 triggered a fundamental shift in the tech industry. Venture capital tightened, unprofitable startups struggled, and even established tech giants faced layoffs and restructuring. For senior Android developers, this transformation has reshaped career trajectories, job expectations, and the skill sets in demand.
In this talk, we will explore the economic shifts and how the Android development job market has evolved in response. We’ll analyze hiring trends, the growing emphasis on profitability and efficiency, and how AI-driven development is changing the role of engineers. Attendees will gain insights into which skills and specializations are now most valuable, how to navigate a job market focused on sustainability over hypergrowth, and what career strategies can help Android developers stay competitive in a leaner, more results-driven industry.
