ADB Wifi was launched in 2010 with Android 11. It brought encryption and device auto-connect to developers. It was well received at the time but did not receive the amount of maintenance it deserved. Let's just say that, as of 2025, there was a lot of room for improvement in ADB Wifi. With Android 17, Google has completely overhauled it. We call it ADB Wifi 2.0. This talk is an in-depth dive into ADB Wifi 2.0 architecture. We describe what has been improved in each component of the stack, the daemon on the device (adbd), the server running on the developer workstation (adb), and how Android Studio automates it all.
